“It’s deep stuff but well worth the time, especially when that journey is soundtracked by music as beautiful, bold and as wondrous as this!” (Atwood Magazine)

We’re very excited to welcome the incredible Hackles, all the way from Astoria, Oregon (USA) to our favourite venue, The Square Tower. As soon as we heard this stunning trio, we knew we had to try and bring them to Portsmouth for you all, and here you go! This is going to sound epic in the Tower!

“The Oregon-based trio are superb musicians and singers – at times almost hypnotic!”  (Americana UK)

The Hackles are Luke Ydstie, Kati Claborn & Halli Anderson.

The Hackles started out as a duo and impressed with their debut album, but it was the follow-up, 2019’s “A Dobritch Did As A Dobritch Should”, that established them well beyond the shores of the USA. In the UK, The Daily Express called it “gorgeous Americana” ,while RnR magazine said it was “magnificent”.

The Hackles

“Achingly raw and breathtakingly warm!” (Atwood Magazine)

Hailing from the oldest settlement west of the Rocky Mountains, Astoria on the big Columbia River, they are close friends and collaborators of another well-known local personality, American folk hero, Michael Hurley, with whom they perform on a regular basis.

The Hackles, now a trio, have a new album that is winning them much more media attention, and a couple of tracks are written by close friend and long-time auxiliary member Halli Anderson of the band, River Whyless, who is now a permanent band member. They made their UK debut in this format at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections in 2023, winning universal praise following a sold-out headline show.
